Holistic Horsemanship

At MEC, horsemanship is a return to partnership.

We teach you to unlearn. You unlearn that more pressure means more results. You unlearn that you have to be louder to be heard. You unlearn that a horse is a vehicle.

Building trust, empathy, confidence, self-awareness, focus, body awareness and learning to set boundaries, are what automatically flow when working with horses.

Our horsemanship programs involve making riders (children and adults) move beyond just riding on horseback to working with horses in all manners of their care and upkeep, which helps them connect with the animal, and take away much learning.

Partnership and Grounding

Connection

Movement

You learn to lead without dragging. To set a boundary without anger. To notice your own jaw, your own held breath, and see the horse mirror it. This is where most people realize they have been alienated from their own body, not just from animals.

At liberty in a round pen, or in the arena, while grooming and tacking your horse, you work with the animal 1-1. Can you invite a 500kg animal to be with you when he can walk away? This is the oldest question in horsemanship. It is earned, not taken.

You learn to follow with your pelvis, your posture, not just grip with your knees and pull the reins. You learn to ride bareback too, and to steer with intention.

Equine Facilitated Programs for Schools

MEC offers experiential, equine-facilitated programs for school students, designed to build foundational life skills through guided interaction with horses. These programs are more than just a ‘field trip’.

In a world where students are increasingly disconnected from animals and the outdoors, working with horses offers a powerful way to learn what classrooms cannot easily teach. Horses respond to authenticity, not performance. They follow clarity and calm, not titles. This immediate, non-judgmental feedback helps students develop self-awareness and self-regulation.

Our school programs focus on core developmental areas including leadership, authenticity, trust, emotional intelligence and essential life skills such as confidence, presence, boundaries, responsibility and non-verbal communication. Students learn to lead without force, to set boundaries without aggression, and to work as a herd where coherence matters more than competition.

The programs are ideal for schools seeking a meaningful outbound and experiential learning experience. They are particularly well-suited for IB schools, as they align directly with the IB Learner Profile attributes, ATL skills and CAS requirements for creativity, activity and service.

Programs are typically structured as a half-day or one-day intervention at our base in Bangalore, facilitated in a safe, supervised environment with no prior horse experience required. All sessions are led by a certified equine-assisted learning practitioner and are designed with age-appropriate outcomes for middle and senior school students.
